Storylines Youth Education Program is the world’s first K-12 youth learning program in which students continuously travel around the world learning firsthand from real-world life experiences. Their families live on Storylines residential ship MV Narrative (full or part time) and explore exotic destinations as lifelong learners.
Is the Storylines World Schooling Program an accredited school?
We are exploring the options between becoming an accredited school and partnering with an online accredited school.
What about social skills?
Friendships are easily formed within Storylines’ small group, community environment with the teacher having time to dedicate toward team building and collaboration in a more nurturing environment than a traditional classroom. Worldschool students are very good at making friends of all different ages, communicating with adults, and connecting with people of diverse backgrounds.
There are other social interactions that come with traditional schools that can be avoided such as bullying, peer pressure, conformity and other negative influences. Children are free to be themselves when they are not in a competitive, conforming environment. Students will also be able to stay in touch with their land-based friends through video calls, gaming, texting, social media, etc.
Can the onboard education program accommodate children with special needs such as autism?
We can have sensory chairs/hammocks and we can provide quiet working spaces for children that get overstimulated. We will also have a list of resources for families with unique educational requirements such as educational tools, software for autism and online classes for students with gifted talents – these are at the families’ expense. Our teachers will be trained in compassionate communication and some will have knowledge of special educational needs. Children that can assimilate into our small group learning environments may or may not need extra support. For example, if a child needs one-to-one support to be successful in that environment, that is not something we have accommodated for. However, we can hire extra staff at families’ expense who require that service.
Will my child stay at grade level?
Yes, if you choose to follow a full course load of academics which may involve one-to-one tutors.
Will my child be able to get into a regular high school or college?
Yes, check with the school’s admission department for their exact requirements. Our academic advisor can help with this (and also
with record keeping and transcripts). See the College Prep section in the World Schooling Brochure for information about university admissions.
How much does the worldschooling education program cost?
Costs have not yet been determined.
